October - Willy & Natalia - Tickets Gone

  #

Quick Ticket Update:  Concert is SOLD OUT

What better way to return to concerts than a MIX of our old favorites?  We snagged Willy Porter who released his new CD this summer: How To Rob A Bank.   If possible, this release is garnering even more praise than usual including the following.

World-renowned guitarist Greg Koch had this to say about Porter's new disc: "you get the same feeling listening to it as you do from one of his solo gig's...that you are in the presence of greatness..." Each song is a fresh cross-pollination of styles, genres and musical forms. In the Woody Guthrie-informed, would-be bank robber's pre-heist confessional title track:

[Porter] sings the bailout blues: 'You can't walk in there brazen with an Uzi like Patty Hearst /I'm gonna secure myself a seat on the board of directors first / That's how you rob a bank.' Given the cyclical nature of corporate scandals, it's likely that How To Rob A Bank — and the rest of Porter's new album...will remain timely for years to come... (The Onion)

This review covers his gig at the Grammy museum with Raining Jane last month.  He's' obviously making waves and we're excited to have him here in October.

Just because she's SO fantastic, a quick word about Natalia Zukerman.  She's been through a couple of times before headlining evenings.   If you haven't seen her - you won't want to mis what has been called "A voice that can coax orchids into bloom and a guitar that can open beer bottles with its teeth?!"

Natalia Returns

  #

November will bring the return of Natalia Zukerman.   She just finished her last CD, produced by none other than Willy Porter...  “Brand New Frame is a perfect fit with what I’ve always wanted Weasel to represent. The small but mighty team here is thrilled to share Natalia’s record, and tremendous talent, with the world.” -Willy Porter.

There is tons more about Natalia, her roots in a musical family and you can find it all here.  My personal favorite quote is:   "A voice that can coax orchids into bloom and a guitar that can open beer bottles with its teeth?!"   Isn't that the greatest description of a talent?!   Wow!  I wish I could live up to a reputation like that!

Traveling with Natalia will be Erika Luckett.   We're looking at a great concert...

Shake those dog days of summer with a strong shot of the blues...

We hope that your summer has been as great as ours.  We were fortunate enough to miss the record high temps here in COS last week - and we're hoping that August will cool down - at least for the concert here on the 12th!  If not... does anyone out there know where we can get a portable air conditioner?!

Speaking of the heat - you really DON'T want to miss Natalia Zukermann here at the house on Friday August 12th.  Now this is the night before the big TESSA fund raiser - so you have to figure that Natalia really has to be someone special for us to take on her concert.

Indie-Music.com had this to say about Natalia's latest release:  "Zukerman has one of those rare voices that seduces you on first purr. Blend Sheryl Crow and Natalie Merchant, and throw in the twang spark of fellow NYC indie artist Amy Speace, and you’ve got that voice. Zukerman can vocally float high and ethereal, as in “Wandering Souls,” and she can drawl and croon an Old West folk ballad, as in “Little Heart,” a song in which you can see the dust rising around every bootstep."  You can read the full article here.

The best place to listen to her music is on CD Baby.  Everyone we've run in to that's heard her, raves about Natalia's performances.  Please come out for this one - it's one of those artists that you're going to be happy to say "we knew her back when..."

Welcome Natalia

  #

We’re intrigued by the sounds we hear from Natalia Zukerman.  Her name belies her deep and rich musical ties, but her music is all her own.  Natalia started playing violin at an insanely young age and broadened her horizons equally so over the years.  Her music blends jazz, blues and acoustic folk.  Her all-original repertoire is most reminiscent of the sounds FHC fans have heard from Erika Luckett.  Just last week she was at "World Cafe Live".  Natalia won 3rd place in the Troubadour's Contest at the Telluride Bluegrass festival last week, but the date was too close to existing shows to bring her through COS.  (That's the contest that Brian & Zoe won last year...)  We managed to work out an August date.  Check out the tunes on her latest CD "On a Clear Day".
